Nature Journaling Pop Up Days
Join Words in the Wild as we explore the beauty of Strawberry Creek and Bancroft Community Garden through the practice of Nature Journaling! Nature journaling combines elements of scientific inquiry, drawing, writing, and mindfulness to connect with the wonders of the natural world around us.
This experience will focus on child-led nature exploration and unstructured play, with joyful literacy sprinkled throughout. Each day will include an opening and closing circle to build community, guided nature journaling activities, read alouds, ample time for exploring the ecosystem around us and free play on the gorgeous new play structure and open lawns at Strawberry Creek Park.
The mixed age environment is more than an opportunity for older children to be leaders - it’s a setting that can allow all children a bit more freedom to focus on their own individual talents and interests. We’ve also found that being around younger kids helps the older children connect with their playful curiosity more easily.
The natural setting of Strawberry Creek Park and Bancroft Community Garden provide several different habitats to explore, including a shallow creek. Children may choose to get wet!
